Accreditation/Objectives

Mercyhurst Preparatory School is currently accredited by the Middle States Association under the Accreditation for Growth protocol.  This accreditation lasts until December 2017.  We are in the process of seeking re-accreditation under a new Middle States protocol referred to as Excellence by Design. The focus of the Excellence by Design protocol is on using “strategic planning as a vehicle for growth and improvement in student performance and in the school’s capacity to effect that growth.”  Excellence by Design is a future-oriented and visionary process that focuses on the most important work of schools and school communities: increasing the performance of their students.

As part of the process, schools are required to set goals for improvement in the areas of student performance and organizational capacity.  The school and members of the Planning Team determine these goals/objectives after an extensive self-study has been completed.  This self-study which took place between September 2015 and September 2016 resulted in the creation of the following objectives:

Middle States Accreditation Student Engagement Objective

By the year 2024, MPS students will demonstrate deeper engagement in their educational experience as evidenced by:

  1. Improved quality of interactions among members of our diverse student population
  2. Increased participation/involvement in extracurricular activities
  3. Improved attendance at extracurricular events in support of school and classmates
  4. Improved school attendance

Middle States Accreditation Science Objective

By the year 2024, MPS students will demonstrate improved preparation for college as evidenced by successful completion of the recommended credits* in science with satisfactory grade performance. (*three credits are required, four credits are recommended)

  1. An increase in the percentage of students who successfully complete the recommended number of science credits by the close of their senior year
  2. An increase in the percentage of students who obtain a grade of C or higher on the final exam in their science course(s)
  3. An increase in the percentage of students who obtain an overall grade of C or higher in their science course(s)

Middle States Accreditation World Language Objective

By the year 2024, MPS students will demonstrate improved preparation for college as evidenced by successful completion of the recommended credits* in foreign language with satisfactory grade performance.  (*two credits are required, three-four credits are recommended)

  1. An increase in the percentage of students who successfully complete the recommended number of foreign language credits by the close of their senior year
  2. An increase in the percentage of students who obtain a grade of C or higher on the final exam in their foreign language course(s)
  3. An increase in the percentage of students who obtain an overall grade of C or higher in their foreign language course(s)
