MPS grad Lindsay Stamp named Atlantic Region Player of the Year

MPS grad Lindsay Stamp has been named Atlantic Region Player of the Year by the Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association. She attends IUP and plays for the Crimson Hawks. The full article can be read on GoErie.com.

Schroeck to play for national championship

shroeckCongratulations to MPS senior Alex Schroeck who plays on the Western Pennsylvania  Olympic Development Program soccer team which has qualified for the US Youth Soccer ODP National Championships.  The tournament is February 27 – March 1 in Phoenix, Arizona. Players must first qualify for the local Olympic Development Program team and then the team must win a regional tournament.  Only four teams from the entire country play in the tournament and Alex is the only player from Erie.  MPS Coach Doug Bakka proudly notes that Alex has been a star player for Mercyhurst Prep over the past four years and now has a great opportunity to play in a tournament where many college coaches will be scouting.

Schaetzle commits to University of Missouri

gschaetzleMercyhurst Prep senior Griffin Schaetzle has made a verbal commitment to swim for the University of Missouri which is a member of SEC. Griffin has been a four-year member of the Mercyhurst Prep swim team. He also swam for five years with the Erie Aquatics Club.

Schaetzle qualified for PIAA states the last three seasons and was a three time state-runner up. He was an All-American at the high school level in the 100 backstroke.

In USA Swimming, he qualified for the Junior National Championships in the 200 back, 200 fly, 100 back and 200 free. He is also a qualifier for the Winter National championship in the 200 back, 200 fly, 100 back.

Schaetzle has consistently been on the honor roll and serves as a Peer Leader. He is the son of Marty and Jean Schaetzle.

Sebastian Curtin makes verbal commitment to Pitt

scurtinMercyhurst Prep senior Sebastian Curtin has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh for cross country and track.

Curtin was a two-time District 10 champion in cross country during his junior and senior years and finished in third place at the PIAA State cross country championship in 2013.

He is a three-time District 10 champion in track and field and captured the D 10 championships in the 4×8 relay, the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run in his junior year. Curtin also finished as the silver medalist in the 1600 meter run at the PIAA State track and field championship.

Curtin has consistently been on the honor roll serves as peer leader and Eucharistic Minister and is captain of the Spirit Squad. He is the son of Ed and Patty Curtin.

Taylor Pletz Commits to Duquesne

tpletzMercyhurst Prep senior Taylor Pletz verbally committed to Duquesne University to continue her educational and cross country & track career.

She is a four-year member of both teams and served as Captain of both during her junior and senior years. Pletz medaled in the State competition in cross country in 2014 and was a State qualifier all four years.

She was a Region Runner of the Year in 10th and 12th grade and was named 1st Team All-Region all four years in cross country. Pletz was a State qualifier in the 4×8 relay her freshman year and a District 10 champion in the 4×8 relay junior year.

Pletz is a Peer Leader, a member of National Honor Society, a four-year member of Student Council, a Eucharistic Minister and volunteers at a local thrift store in North East. She is the daughter of Glen and Nicole Pletz.
