Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC)

New applications for EITC tax credits will be accepted online beginning July 1, 2014 with renewals accepted May 15, 2014.

MPS benefits with needed scholarship funds, you benefit by reducing your actual tax bill!

With recent changes in legislation, most businesses qualify!

Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program put simply, allows you to take your PA state tax dollars out of the hands of Harrisburg and put directly into the hands of Mercyhurst Prep where each dollar is used for scholarships/financial aid for deserving MPS students.  The application process is easy. If you have already heard of the EITC program but did not qualify, please check it out again as recent changes to the program now allow subchapter S and partnerships to participate.

The EITC program is unique to Pennsylvania allowing businesses to make a charitable donation based on the amount of PA state taxes you pay. In return, you receive up to a 90% tax credit when you file state taxes. As an example, a $10,000 donation can earn a $9,000 tax credit, plus you can claim your donation on your federal tax return. Many times this equates to 100% back in the hands of your business with possibly no out-of-pocket expense. Plus you just created $10,000 in new MPS scholarships!

EITC’s provide much needed lifeboats to students wishing to receive a value-based education from Mercyhurst Prep that otherwise would not be able to attend. It’s a WIN-WIN situation within your control.

Please consider this opportunity as soon as possible and speak with your accountant, business manager or tax advisor about the EITC program. For more information, to access the application. Please make sure it is the new application for 2014-2015. To review guidelines, simply link to the Department of Community and Economic Development website at Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC), or contact Lisa Nietupski at 814.824.2408 or lznietupski@mpslakers.com.

All applications are to be submitted online. New one and two-year applications are accepted beginning July 1, 2014. Renewals are accepted beginning May 15, 2014.  All are processed on a first come first served basis.

Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credits (OSTC)

Formerly known as EITC 2.0

Much like Educational Improvement Tax Credits (EITC) — Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credits (OSTC) allow businesses to redirect their Pennsylvania state taxes to Mercyhurst Preparatory School as a donation which creates MPS scholarships.

As businesses make OSTC donations to MPS, the funds are used to provide scholarships to eligible students who wish to attend MPS.

As with all of our scholarships and financial aid, the first step is to apply for financial assistance through the Erie Catholic Diocese.  These applications are due March 1, 2014.  Download the 2014-15 Tuition Application (PDF) or read more details about the program.

All qualified MPS applicants who have filled out the diocese forms by the deadline are considered for this scholarship.  Feel free to also send your name to the MPS advancement office by emailing your contact information to lznietupski@mpslakers.com.

Interested businesses and families are encouraged to please read more information and guidelines about Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credits and scholarships.
