Girls Soccer Information

Practice officially begins on August 17th.  All interested players in grades 9-12 should follow this schedule.

Monday August 17th: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. @ Vets Stadium; 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Behrend
Tuesday August 18th: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. @ Vets Stadium; 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Behrend
Wednesday August 19th: 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. @ Vets Stadium; 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. @ Behrend
Thursday August 20th: 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. @ Vets Stadium
Friday August 21st: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. @ MPS
Saturday August 22nd: 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. @ MPS

ALL players must have their completed PIAA physical form turned in to me or the athletic office either before or on August 17th.  You cannot practice until this is done.  Please take care of this immediately. Thanks.

Friday August 21st:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. @ Veterans Stadium
Saturday August 22nd:  To be decided.

Teachers honored

On Friday, May 8, Bishop Lawrence Persico and the Erie Catholic Diocese honored educators from our regional Catholic schools who reached milestone years of teaching.  Mercyhurst Prep topped the celebration with 13 faculty celebrating a collective 315 years of teaching.

Frank Amicucci (Social Studies) and Chuck Stachera (Math & Computer Science) were each honored for 40 years of service.

Teachers honored for 30 years of service included Peg Aste (Director of International Students), Maria Carroll (Spanish) and Maryanne Mager-Dombrowski (Dance).

Other teachers honored include:  Kathy Merski, 25 years, Photography; Jennifer Ott, 20 years, Math; Jane Fisher, 20 Years, Chemistry; Cindy Comstock, 20 years, French; Doug Bakka, 20 years, Social Studies; Jen Galla, 15  years, Math; Dave Schroeck, 15 years, Ceramics; and Kara Grise, 10 years, Dance.

Alum Stephanie Warner honored

MPS alumna Stephanie Warner ’11, was honored by the Harvard Crimson as one of Harvard University’s fifteen most interesting seniors. Read the article

Taylor Pletz Commits to Duquesne

Taylor Pletz

Mercyhurst Prep senior Taylor Pletz verbally committed to Duquesne University to continue her educational and cross country & track career.

She is a four-year member of both teams and served as Captain of both during her junior and senior years. Pletz medaled in the State competition in cross country in 2014 and was a State qualifier all four years.

She was a Region Runner of the Year in 10th and 12th grade and was named 1st Team All-Region all four years in cross country. Pletz was a State qualifier in the 4×8 relay her freshman year and a District 10 champion in the 4×8 relay junior year.

Pletz is a peer leader, a member of National Honor Society, a four-year member of Student Council, a Eucharistic Minister and volunteers at a local thrift store in North East. She is the daughter of Glen and Nicole Pletz.

Sebastian Curtin makes verbal commitment to Pitt

Mercyhurst Prep senior Sebastian Curtin has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh for cross country and track.

Curtin was a two-time District 10 champion in cross country during his junior and senior years and finished in third place at the PIAA State cross country championship in 2013.

He is a three-time District 10 champion in track and field and captured the D 10 championships in the 4×8 relay, the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run in his junior year. Curtin also finished as the silver medalist in the 1600 meter run at the PIAA State track and field championship.

Curtin has consistently been on the honor roll serves as peer leader and Eucharistic Minister and is captain of the Spirit Squad. He is the son of Ed and Patty Curtin.
