Good career education is twofold:
First, you must do some serious self-assessment.
-
What do I like to do? (interests)
-
What kind of person am I? (personality)
-
What am I good at? (abilities)
-
What could I be good at? (aptitudes)
-
What do I really care about? (values)
-
How much schooling do I want? (educational plan)
The second part of career exploration is awareness
and knowledge of the World of Work. An excellent source of information on
specific careers is the
Occupational
Outlook Handbook. To see what jobs are projected to be in high
demand through the year 2010, check out

jobs.
The COPS Interest Inventory is a useful starting
point in your career search and is available from your guidance counselor.
You might also try the
Jung
Typology Test, a simplified personality "test." The
results of this personality assessment can be paired with the Personality
Types in the book Do What You Are, providing interesting and helpful
information. See your guidance counselor.
