College Search

With over 3,000 colleges and universities in the country, the college selection process can initially appear overwhelming! Before you read all the junk mail ("We're the right college for you!") or start into that 2,000 page college handbook, it is helpful to first start with YOU!!! What are you looking for in a college? Think about all the factors that go into a good college decision.

  • size

  • location

  • majors

  • selectivity

  • activities

  • cost

Which of these or other factors are most important to you? Use these to imagine your Ideal University! (I want a school within 6 hours of home, around 5,000 students, in a big city, with a major in psychology, a crew team and a ski club.)

Once you've done this, its time to use college search programs, like College Board, that will help you narrow down your college choices based on your preferences.

The guidance office has a variety of materials to assist in your college search:

  • books on college selection

  • college catalogs

  • college view books

  • college application forms
