MISSION STATEMENT

Mercyhurst Preparatory School is a four year co-educational Catholic secondary school founded by the Sisters of Mercy to prepare students from all religious and ethnic backgrounds for a successful, productive, and compassionate life in an ever-changing and interdependent world. A Mercyhurst Prep education is based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and a modeling of Judeo-Christian values; excellence in academic and co-curricular programs, service to our local and global communities, and the dedication and active support of the students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni of the Mercyhurst community.

Mercy Sister JoAnne Courneen, former regional president of the Sisters of Mercy and past president, assistant principal, acting principal and teacher at MPS, said, "The values are key. They are the foundation from which programs develop as well as the spirit of the programs put forward." 

Sister JoAnne said the mission statement is supported in all phases of the community including academics, campus ministry, creative arts, athletics and co-curricular activities.  "There is an effort to make sure the mission remains the compelling force in all areas of the faith tradition including the direction of the programs, the way teachers treat students, and hospitality," she said.
