Mercyhurst Prep Lakers enjoy access to valuable academic partnerships that help lay the groundwork for a successful career in medicine. Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine developed educational programs that foster a respect and love of treating others through a career in the health field.
MASH: Medical Application to Science and Health
MASH is for students who choose to focus on differential diagnosis of a “case study” concentration in microbiology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, histology, gross anatomy, OMM and clinical skills. LECOM medical faculty and students alongside MPS faculty give students an early advantage over their future pre-med classmates.
Mercyhurst University Credit Programs for MPS Lakers
At Mercyhurst Prep academically able Lakers who wish to begin university course work or want to pursue a subject in greater depth enjoy a unique opportunity to stroll down the hill and study at Mercyhurst University.
The high school and the university campuses are adjoined by a short walkway, so both schools are easily accessible to each other either by driving or walking.
By the end of sophomore year, Mercyhurst Prep students can begin taking evening or summer classes for credit at Mercyhurst University. MPS students are granted a very substantial tuition discount by Mercyhurst University for each course. The university grants full credit for such courses and will send a transcript of the student’s work to the college of his/her choice.
Through the Seniors At Mercyhurst (SAM) program, Lakers have the opportunity to complete their senior year at Mercyhurst Prep and their freshman year at Mercyhurst University simultaneously. Students who are recommended for the program work with both the high school and university counselors for selection of courses and may also be eligible for financial aid. This tremendous college opportunity while still in high school provides significant tuition savings with a jump start to earning a college degree in less than four years!
Community of Scholars
The Mercyhurst Prep community of scholars continually cultivates our school community to embrace curiosity, integrity, pride in academic excellence, and motivation. These Lakers look for ways to discover interdisciplinary opportunities, which can lead to the creation of courses that encourage critical thinking and the application of knowledge, as well as increase enthusiasm for learning. Our teachers study the latest research on motivation and determine how they can best apply that to their classroom methods.
