MPS students gathered at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul before a Saturday evening mass said by Erie’s Fr. Rich Toohey, uncle of Gabe Gallagher ’19 seen here second from the right in the front row.

Papa, Papa!  That emotional chant greeted Pope Francis from hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, including 19 MPS students and 5 chaperones fortunate enough to see the Holy Father in Philadelphia in late September.  The MPS contingent traveled with a group from the Erie Catholic Diocese.

Pilgrims walked miles through the streets of Philadelphia, which were closed off to vehicles throughout the weekend.  The Erie Diocese group slept on the floor of a gym that was close to the Eakins Oval where the Pope made appearances Saturday and Sunday.

The highlight of the experience was attending the Papal mass Sunday afternoon.  Pope Francis was in Philadelphia to attend the World Meeting of Families, where he called for all families and all people to treat each other with love and mercy.
