The Mercyhurst Prep Performing Arts Department presents ‘Oklahoma!’, a groundbreaking musical that changed American theater forever. Written by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics), this 1943 classic tells the story of Laurey Williams and Curly McLain in the Oklahoma Territory just before it becomes a state.

What makes Oklahoma! special is how it revolutionized the musical theater genre by seamlessly blending memorable songs with genuine character development and an engaging story. It’s a show about community, love, and finding your place—themes that resonate just as powerfully today as they did nearly 80 years ago.

The musical features some of the most iconic songs in American theater, including “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” and “People Will Say We’re in Love.” From the famous dream ballet sequence to the lively barn dance finale, Oklahoma! delivers spectacle, humor, and heart.
