Ways to Give

Thank you for considering a gift to Mercyhurst Preparatory School. There are many ways to show your support:

Cash Gifts

You can make a tax-deductible cash contribution online now or by check made out to: Mercyhurst Preparatory School.

Dollars for Scholars

Your donations to Dollars for Scholars provide financial aid and scholarship to students most in need of financial assistance.  More than 60% of our students receive some form of financial aid, academic, or arts scholarship.

One of the most meaningful ways to give is the gift of your time and talent. Volunteerism provides the foundation that makes all that we do at Mercyhurst Prep possible. Please check out the Laker Life page for more opportunities to participate. As our thanks to you, each year we honor our dedicated volunteers at our Volunteer Luncheon. At this event our volunteers need only attend as our staff, faculty and administrators do the work.

Some of the volunteer opportunities include: tailgate parties, Open House, Rowing Regatta, the Laker Legends Scholarship Gala, Laker Glow 5K, MPS Parent Welcome Party. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Lisa Nietupski at lznietupski@mpslakers.com.

Matching Gifts

Many companies will match their employees’ charitable donations, dollar for dollar. Please check with your employer’s Human Resources Department regarding the specifics of your company’s plan. Matching Gift programs often double the amount of your donation. Simply obtain the necessary form from your Human Resources Department and we will do the rest!

Here are some companies with local ties that generously participate in the Matching Gift program:

Erie Gives

Each year the Erie Community Foundation hosts Erie Gives Day, a great time to consider a donation to Mercyhurst Prep as the Erie Gives partners match a percentage of your donation. Erie Gives Day 2020 is coming up on August 11. Online donations can be made that day from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at www.eriegives.org. Thank you for participating in Erie Gives Day to benefit MPS!

Mercyhurst Prep (MP) Fund

Passing Laker Life on to a student who could benefit from a Mercyhurst Prep education through the Mercyhurst Prep Fund is one of the best ways you can help change young lives. The MP Fund provides scholarships and financial aid to make an outstanding Mercy education available to an increasing number of deserving students.

Planned Giving

These non-traditional, creative gift giving opportunities can help secure the school’s future.

  • Bequests
  • Insurance
  • Property/Stocks/Bonds
  • Trust & Annuities
In this way, the quality education and strong ethical influence that provide guidance to MPS students can be assured for generations to come. We encourage you to discuss these opportunities with your financial advisor to see which works the best for you.
I wanted to leave it to places that were important to me. That had to be MPS – it was one of the great loves of my life.
Susie DiPlacido Shickler, MPS ‘74

MPS Program Giving

Many donors like to support a specific program area of interest like Creative Arts, Athletics, Technology, Library, or Faculty Salaries. Assisting with operational expenses or capital needs enables MPS to provide students with an outstanding education and unparalleled preparation for life.

You may wish to donate to an established Mercyhurst Prep Named Scholarship or start one of your own in honor or in memory of a particular individual, group or cause. When the fund reaches $25,000 or more, it can become endowed and restricted as a named scholarship. This allows the scholarship to live on virtually forever, with the award being generated from the interest earned on the principal.

MPS has over 20 existing named scholarship funds, including two that have been started by alumni groups. Members of those graduating classes contribute as the fund builds towards becoming endowed. This wonderful alumni effort helps to keep classmates in touch with each other and with the school that continues to be an important part of their lives.

As a class, we valued the high caliber of education we received at MPS. We wanted to extend Mercyhurst Prep’s life-changing experience to youth of all means. Many gifts helped establish this Class of ’69 Endowed Scholarship Fund and we’re committed to growing it into the future.

Laker Advocate Program

Unfortunately, financial hardships often stand in the way of deserving students attending Mercyhurst Prep. If you are an alumnus, or if you have children who have attended MPS, you already know the tremendous impact this outstanding Mercy education can have on a Lakers’ life. Through the Advocate program, you can help sponsor a student for one, two, three, or all four of their MPS years. The minimum participation level for the Advocate program is $1,000 per year.

As part of the Laker Advocate Program, you partner with a student to give him an advantage in life that will surely impact his future. You can choose to be identified to your student or remain anonymous. You can also receive reports on his grades.

Anne Ryan Baltimore Mission Trip

The annual trip, for rising MPS seniors, is named after 2006 MPS graduate Anne Ryan, who died tragically in September of 2007 as she was beginning her sophomore year at the University of Pennsylvania.  The experience continues to be positive and even life-altering for its participants as well as for those whom they serve.  MPS students and their chaperones have been bringing Mercy to the people of Baltimore for many years with the help of donations from caring people like you.  Please consider adding to this fund that allows students to continue this tradition of service and personal growth.

Laker Memory Square Tile

The Laker Memory Square Tile Project leaves a lasting legacy to honor or memorialize your Mercyhurst Prep or Mercyhurst Seminary connection. Funds raised in this effort go into the MP Fund, which provides scholarships/financial aid to an increasing number of deserving students.

Each memory square is a 4.25” x 4.25” personalized ceramic tile displayed inside the Athletic Center entrance in the Great Hall of Fame outside the gym.

Acknowledge a friend, loved one, club, team, fellow student, event, accomplishment, organization, yourself…or simply show your support for MPS.

Buy extra tiles for display in your home, office, or to give as gifts. Each extra tile comes with a free easel stand.

Laker Legends Scholarship Gala

Each year the Laker Legends Scholarship Gala is an opportunity to share a festive evening of food and fun with your Laker family.  You can also enjoy one of the region’s most exciting charity auctions.

The 2020 gala will be held on March 7 at Erie’s beautiful Bayfront Convention Center.

MPS Courtyard

A lasting gift, forever memoralized in our MPS Courtyard, is a legacy to honor or memorialize your Mercyhurst Prep/Mercyhurst Seminary connection. Funds raised in this effort go into the MP Fund, which provides scholarships/financial aid to an increasing number of deserving students.
